EV Watershed Coalition Presents: Weird and Wonderful Lichens

  • Estes Valley Community Center - Lower Level 660 Community Drive Estes Park, CO, 80517 United States (map)

Lichens are organisms that result from the symbiotic relationship between fungi and algae. They are found in ecosystems all over the earth, including deserts, the arctic tundra, and our own Rocky Mountains.

Seth Raynor is PhD student in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department at the University of Colorado Boulder where he previously got his master's in museum and Field Studies. Seth was trained as a botanist and fire ecologist during his undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University but currently specializes in lichenology with a focus on floristics, taxonomy, and revisionary systematics of lichens in the southern Rocky Mountains. He along with labmate Jacob Watts and advisor Dr. Erin Manzitto-Tripp are currently working towards the first comprehensive inventory of Colorado's lichen biota which you can read about here.
