EVWC was created to lead local Estes Valley flood recovery and restoration projects by Partnering with the Estes Community.
Our mission is to bring together local, state, and federal partners to collaborate on projects that support the water, forests, and wildlife of the Estes Valley.
Estes Valley Watershed Coalition a 501(c)(3) organization with EIN: 47-2792100
History of EVWC
After the 2013 flood, the Colorado Water Conservation Board asked that a local watershed coalition be established to coordinate flood restoration efforts. Members of the Estes Valley community volunteered to form a grassroots organization, the Estes Valley Watershed Coalition. EVWC has completed fourteen stream restoration projects totaling five miles on the Big Thompson River, Fall River and Fish Creek. The projects have added:
new flood plain areas
more vegetation to absorb high water
fish spawning locations
beaver ponds
and made our valley more resilient to future events.
We have staff, board and advisory team members with backgrounds in forestry, engineering, water treatment and business management.
Today and Moving Forward
In 2019, EVWC updated its vision and mission to incorporate a more comprehensive approach to protecting the Estes Valley’s waters, forests, and wildlife. This means we will continue to protect the Estes Valley watershed by continuing to partner and collaborate with many organizations, agencies, and the Estes Valley community. This helps us all to implement resilient and sustainable solutions for the environment.
