Dr. Stefan Ekernas has worked on wildlife conservation across North America, Asia, and Africa for the last 20 years. His current work as the Director of Colorado Field Conservation for Denver Zoo focuses on wildlife conservation in Colorado. Stefan is also the Vice Chair of the Board for Summit County Safe Passages, co-founded the Colorado Wolverine Coalition, and is a member of the Mt. Blue Sky Collaborative.
In 2019, Denver Zoo became the first zoo to successfully breed boreal toads and has since released over 3,000 tadpoles into the wild to save this amphibian from completely disappearing. These efforts also give wild populations more of a chance to build genetic resistance to chytrid fungus. Join us as Stefan shares about conservation for endangered boreal toads within Colorado.
