This event has been cancelled for now but check back in the Fall for a rescheduled date!
Join staff from the Northern Colorado Fireshed Collaborative, Estes Valley Watershed Coalition, Larimer Conservation District, Larimer County, U.S. Forest Service, Big Thompson Watershed Coalition, Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Valley Land Trust and the Estes Valley Fire Protection District to learn about forest treatments in the Estes Valley and Big Thompson Watersheds that are helping to reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health.
Guests will enjoy time hiking in the woods while learning about different types of forest treatments including hand thinning, pile building and burning, and mechanical whole tree removal on both public and private lands. Our co-hosts will also discuss some of the post-fire recovery work that has taken place since the fires of 2020. We will also learn about the Northern Colorado Fireshed Collaborative and how work in the Estes Valley and Big Thompson Watersheds fits into a larger, landscape-scale strategy on the Front Range.
Time/Date: August 14, 9am-2pm
Meeting location: Meet at the Estes Valley Parking Garage - we will carpool in vans from there.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen, snacks, jacket, layers, comfortable shoes/boots for hiking in forested areas and a lunch.
