EV Watershed Coalition Presents: Water is Finite, A Symposium

Join us on a journey of discovery with esteemed speakers: You will hear acclaimed meteorologist from Denver Channel 7, Mike Nelson, discuss weather prediction in a changing climate. State Climatologist, Russ Schumacher, will explain the climate change phenomenon. Jean Lever, the Big Thompson River Commissioner, will describe the fascinating story of Lake Estes. Jeff Stahla, Public Information Officer, Northern Water, will reveal the engineering feats that provide water to a growing population. 

You will come away with renewed insights into our most important resource. EVWC is hosting this event in partnership with the Estes Park Environmental Film Festival and Visit Estes Park Earth Week in Estes Park.

Mike Nelson

As Channel 7's Chief Meteorologist, Mike has spent 40 years in broadcasting, 20 at Denver 7. He has won several awards, especially for developing transformative weather graphics for television. Over 50 TV stations have adopted his innovations.

Russ Schumacher

In addition to being the Colorado State Climatologist, Russ is also a professor of atmospheric research at CSU and Director of the Colorado Climate Center, which collects and observes data to monitor climate changes.

Jean Lever

Jean is the Thompson River Commissioner for the Colorado Division of Water Resources. Jean is responsible for the river’s daily water distributions and maintaining water diversion records. Jean’s work involves setting calls on the river, assuring diversions are in priority, assuring augmentation and return flows requirements are met, and compliance of decrees.

Jeff Stahla

Jeff is the Public Information Officer at the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. Northern Water provides water to Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, Longmont, Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield, many smaller communities, rural and domestic water districts and local industries. Before joining Northern Water, Jeff had been a journalist in the region for more than 20 years, most recently serving as the editor of the Loveland Reporter-Herald.
